France and Liverpool striker Djibril Cisse is set to miss the World Cup after he suffered a suspected broken leg.
Cisse was carried off after ten minutes of France's last warm-up game before the finals in Germany against China after falling heavily under the challenge of Chinese captain Zhi Zheng.
His right leg buckled under him and it is suspected that he has fractured his tibia.
"It is bad but we cannot say very much right now," French coach Raymond Domenech told French television station TF1
"He has gone to the hospital for tests and we are extremely worried. We all saw what happened and it is hugely disappointing."
Cisse has already recovered once before from a career-threatening leg break after being sidelined for six months after the injury in October 2004.
The Frenchman has been linked with a move away from Anfield this summer after falling out with Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez but a serious break could rule him out for some time.
He is likely to be replaced in the French squad by either former Arsenal and Real Madrid striker Nicolas Anelka or Barcelona's Ludovic Guily.
France won the friendly 3-1, with goals from David Trezeguet, an own goal and Thierry Henry.
Zinedine Zidane, playing his last game in France before he retires from football, missed a first-half penalty.
