Djibril Cisse's scheduled return to action has been put back almost two months as the horrific leg break he suffered in World Cup preparations takes longer to repair than estimated.
The pacy striker, currently on loan from Liverpool at Olympique Marseille, had been hoped to make his debut for the French side sometime later this month.
However coach Albert Emon dampened those expectations with a much more downbeat prognosis, saying that the French international would only resume light training "in a little under three weeks".
"He could return in a month and a half, to two months. He is training [the leg] slowly, in a good fashion," he said.
Cisse suffered a similar injury during his time on Merseyside when he broke his other leg in a game against Blackburn Rovers in October 2004.
He recovered from that injury in an impressively quick time, appearing just six months later in Liverpool's European Cup-winning side.
The break to the tibia and fibula of his right leg in France's warm-up friendly against China had initially seemed to put an end to a possible return to his homeland, but Marseille went ahead with the season-long loan anyway.
And Emon is already looking forward to harnessing Cisse's talents in his attack.
"His best position is leading the line and that's where he'll play," he said.
