Danny Cipriani's bid to re-establish himself in the England national side has suffered a major blow with the news he will miss the upcoming autumn international series.
The Wasps fly-half suffered a contusion to his knee in his side's Guinness Premiership victory over Northampton last Sunday.
And after undergoing scans, it has emerged Cipriani has also suffered a small hairline fracture to the head of his right fibula and will be out until the end of November.
"Following a contusion to his knee in Wasps' Guinness Premiership clash with Northampton on Sunday, further investigations have shown that Danny has a small hair line fracture in his right fibula head," a statement from Wasps.
"This was a direct result of sustaining a blow during the fixture.
"Danny has remained on crutches and will do so until further notice. The club will be working towards a six-week return to play."
Cipriani has so far failed to convince current England manager Martin Johnson of his capabilities as an international number ten, resulting in his continued selection for the second-string England Saxons side over the last 18 months.
However, his early form in the 2009/10 season has seen his stock increase to the extent that many pundits were suggesting he could be called into the senior squad if injuries were to befall his rivals for the stand-off position.
