After his wife was moved to a new rehabilitation facility, US actor Charlie Sheen has also now sought treatment, his representative has confirmed.
"As a preventative measure, Charlie Sheen has entered a rehabilitation facility," his spokesperson said in a statement.
"He will take some time off his series Two and a Half Men."
Production on the CBS sitcom is to be "temporarily suspended", a statement from the network and the show's producers Warner Bros Television confirmed, adding both parties wished Sheen well.
The 44-year-old and his wife Brooke Mueller have featured frequently in the gossip pages in recent months, following Sheen's arrest on claims of domestic violence after an incident on Christmas Day.
Mueller went into rehab earlier this month before moving to a different facility this week amid claims her privacy had been breached.
Sheen has reportedly received treatment himself for drug and alcohol problems on two previous occasions but it is thought the latest trip to rehab comes out of a desire to avoid negative influences and possible temptation while he and Mueller attempt to repair their marriage.
The couple are parents to 11-month-old twins Max and Bob.
