Holby City actor Tom Chambers has been crowned this year's winner of Strictly Come Dancing.

The 31-year-old and dance partner Camilla Dallerup beat former S Club 7 star Rachel Stevens and Vincent Simone to the show's crown after Lisa Snowdon finished third, despite scoring highest on the first two dances.

"I just had the best time of my life," Stevens said after the result was announced. "Everyone is amazing. Vincent – I've adored dancing with you."

Winner Chambers jumped to thank his wife before Dallerup, saying "I just can't wait to be newly-wed". He departs on his honeymoon in the new year.

But after some tactful prodding from host Bruce Forsyth on the BBC1 show he managed to compliment her, telling her "you deserve this more than anyone".

Chambers' show dance may have clinched it after the show's elaborate – and controversial – voting processes boiled down to a straight vote by the public.

Whereas Stevens fell over at the end of her dance Chambers used comedy and some nifty spats to wow the judges.

"I liked Rachel's but this was something else," said a grinning Len.

And Craig Revel Horwood added: "You're like Bisto gravy, darling – you saved the best till last."

Earlier in the evening Snowdon and her dance partner Brendan Cole had won the opening two dances with maximum marks.

Rachel and Vincent dropped just one mark from the possible 80 while Tom and Camilla, thanks to a slip-up in their opening dance, scored 73.
