Brazilian left-back Roberto Carlos has retired from international football in the wake of the South Americans' exit from the World Cup.
The 33-year-old has won 132 caps for his country and appeared in two World Cup finals, winning one in 2002.
The Real Madrid defender had previously said he would continue playing for his country for the foreseeable future but he admitted his time was up after Brazil crashed out to France in this year's quarter-finals.
"I've stopped with the national team," Carlos said. "It was my last game."
Carlos was famous for his powerful free-kicks, the most famous of which he scored at the Tournoi held in France in 1997.
During his career, he also won two Copa Americas in 1997 and 1999, a Confederations Cup in 1997 and a bronze medal at the Olympics in 1996.
Carlos follows Lyon midfielder Juninho Pernambucano out of the international frame after he retired from the national team yesterday.
The 31-year-old had claimed those over 30 in this year's Brazil squad should retire to allow younger players to establish themselves in the team before the next World Cup in South Africa.
"The national team is over for me and those of us over 30 have to leave a place for the younger players to make a new team for 2010," Juninho said.
"We have to think about the young guys and build up another team."
Brazil had nine players over 30 in Germany, including goalkeeper Dida, defenders Cafu and Emerson and midfielder Ze Roberto.
