Former Portsmouth defender Sol Campbell is to sue the troubled Premier League club for around £1.7 million in unpaid bonuses, it has been revealed.
The ex-England defender is thought to be claiming for a number of outstanding payments including fees for his image rights and playing bonuses, as well as interest thereon.
Campbell has recently rejoined another former club Arsenal until the end of the season after being released from his previous contract at League Two side Notts County.
He is thought to have issued a writ in the High Court against the Fratton Park outfit this week.
The news is a further blow for Portsmouth, who face serious questions over their future in both the Premier League and professional football in general.
After a summer of upheaval and a recent change of ownership, Pompey have failed to pay their players on time on three separate occasions and had an attempt to fend off a winding-up order rejected in court on Tuesday.
The club, who are currently bottom of the table, are also operating under a transfer embargo, while £7 million of TV revenue was recently withheld by league bosses in order to pay off footballing creditors.
