Fraizer Campbell inspired Hull City to a 3-1 victory over bottom club Colchester United as the on-loan striker scored two-first half goals at Layer Road to affirm the Tigers' promotion credentials.
Campbell, on loan from Manchester United, opened the scoring on the 20th minute after his original effort came back off Colchester keeper, Dean Gerken.
But that was not before Colchester were reduced to ten men after Phil Ifil tripped Campbell on his way towards the penalty area after just 14 minutes.
Hull, who beat Southampton 5-0 at the weekend, doubled their lead in the 33rd minute when Campbell dispatched an unstoppable left-foot shot into the bottom corner after some neat footwork on the edge of the box.
But ten-man Colchester pulled a goal back four minutes later when Kevin Lisbie found some space and shot across Boaz Myhill to make it 2-1.
Colchester began the second-half in lively fashion but Hull made the extra man count in the final stages with Caleb Folan coming off the bench to score the third in the 86th minute.
Meanwhile, the other Championship fixture of the evening saw Wolverhampton Wanderers beat Scunthorpe 2-1 at Molineux.
The visitors, who are one place above Colchester in the relegation zone, took the lead with a header from Andy Butler after five minutes.
But Wolves hit back in the second half when Michael Gray's 57th minute effort levelled the scores before an 82nd minute winner from Neill Collins ended Scunthorpe's hopes of a precious point.
