Water companies helped steady the FTSE 100 in early trading on Monday.
At 09:41 GMT the London index 5,200.20, a rise of 11.68 points, or 0.23 per cent.
Leading the gains was Severn Trent which rose 4.44 per cent, or 50 points, to 1,175p.
United Utilities Group also leapt 4.29 per cent in the first hour of trading.
Fund firm Schroders was the top faller in early trading, down 1.65 per cent to 980p, after Credit Suisse downgraded its rating to "neutral" from "outperform".
BT Group also started the week down 0.87 per cent.
