Vicks nasal sprays are being recalled after fears they could contain dangerous bacteria.
Consumers in the UK who have purchased the Vicks Sinex Micromist Aqueous Nasal Spray Solution, 15ml, are being warned to call the manufacturer Procter & Gamble's hotline.
In a statement the company said three lots of the nasal spray were being recalled in the US, Germany and the UK. It said it was taking this precautionary step after finding the bacteria B. cepacia in a small amount of product made at its plant in Gross Gerau, Germany.
There have been no reports of illness, but Vicks warned the bacteria could cause serious infections for individuals with a compromised immune system, or those with chronic lung conditions, such as cystic fibrosis. "B. cepacia poses little medical risk to healthy individuals," it added.
The bacteria were detected during routine tests of the product, with the affected products only sold in the three countries.
Vicks also said the lot number involved for consumers in the UK was 9224028832, listed on both the outer carton and the bottle. Consumers who find the number on the product should "simply discard" it.
Vicks added anyone who has these specific lots of this product can call P&G for a replacement coupon or refund at 0800 555 515.
