The FTSE 100 began Monday in positive fashion, up almost one per cent in the first hour of trading.
At 09:27 GMT the London index stood at 5,102.87, a rise of 41.95 points, or 0.83 per cent.
Randgold Resources led the gains in early trading, up 6.68 per cent to 4,490p. The impressive start to the week came after the mining company announced its full-year profits had leapt 79 per cent.
Xstrata and Fresnillo also rose significantly, up 5.37 per cent and 5.08 per cent respectively.
Aggreko suffered the worst losses in the first hour of trading at the start of the week, falling 3.33 per cent to 873.4p.
Cairn Energy also dropped 1.59 per cent to 316.5p.
