The FTSE 100 started the week in a positive fashion this morning, recording gains of over half a per cent.
At 09:25 GMT the London index stood at 5,227.70, a rise of 30.89 points - 0.59 per cent.
Leading the gains was oil explorer Cairn Energy, which started the morning up 99 points to 3,145p following news it had secured a rig to enable it to start drilling off Greenland.
Old Mutual was also up 2.10 per cent to 105,5p.
The biggest loser in early trading was Royal Dutch Shell - down 5.61 per cent to 1,744,64p.
