FTSE 100 opens strongly following Lloyds trading update

The FTSE 100 made steady progress on Friday morning, rising by 0.35 per cent, led by some significant gains in the banking sector.
At 09:38 GMT the London index stood at 5,662.62 - a rise of 20 points.
Lloyds Banking Group led the gains, rising a dramatic 7.87 per cent to 59.92p, after releasing a positive trading update in which it predicted a return to profit this year.
Royal Bank of Scotland Group and Barclays also rose, the former leaping 5.88 per cent to 44.47p
Of the few firms which registered noticeable falls, Centrica slipped 0.91 per cent 295.3p.
Scottish and Southern Energy and Vedanta Resources also fell 0.81 per cent and 0.7 per cent respectively.
