George Burley sacked as Scotland manager

Scotland have sacked manager George Burley following their 3-0 defeat to Wales at the weekend.
Despite giving the former Southampton boss the vote of confidence just a month ago following the team's failure to qualify for the World Cup finals next summer, Burley's position became untenable after the reverse in Cardiff.
Saturday's abject performance, which saw Scottish fans turn on the players and the manager after they conceded three times within the first 35 minutes, proved to be the final straw.
The team also suffered a disappointing 2-0 defeat against Japan last month.
And after an emergency board meeting today, the Scottish Football Association confirmed Burley's exit - giving them four months to select his successor before the next game, a friendly against Czech Republic on March 3rd.
Since Burley took over, Scotland have plummeted 32 places in the official Fifa world rankings, from 14th in January 2008 to 46th today.
