Certain batches of the Dr Pepper soft drink are being recalled in Northern Ireland after it was found to contain high levels of benzoic acid.
The Food Standards Agency has issued a food alert for information, adding that Coca Cola Hellenic Bottling Company is contacting all its customers who received the affected drinks.
The affected batches were distributed in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, and no other batches of Dr Pepper are known to be affected.
The recall affects the 500ml product, with a Best Before of end of December 2009.
Benzoic acid is used in many foods to stop harmful micro-organisms growing. However, high levels can lead to the formation of the cancer-causing agent benzene.
