Brits Ian McShane, Clive Owen and Mick Jagger came away as winners from the Golden Globes awards ceremony in Hollywood last night.

Clive Owen was voted the best supporting actor for his appearance in Closer, while Ian McShane won best television actor for his performance in Deadwood.

Mick Jagger won a Golden Globe for best song in the shape of Alfie's 'Old Habits Die Hard', which he wrote with Dave Stewart.

But there was disappointment for Imelda Staunton and Kate Winslet who were nominated but failed to win the best actress and best actress in a musical or comedy categories respectively.

Elsewhere, it was a good night for The Aviator, which beat off competition from Closer and Finding Neverland to win the best motion picture category.

And the best actor award went to Aviator star Leonardo DiCaprio for his performance in the film. Jamie Foxx picked up the best actor award in the musical or comedy category for his role in Ray.

Hilary Swank was voted best actress for her performance in Million Dollar Baby, while Annette Bening's role in Being Julia won her the best actress award in the musical or comedy category.

Natalie Portman made it a double for Closer in the supporting category, by picking up the best supporting actress award.

Clint Eastwood was voted best director for Million Dollar Baby, while the night also saw five-time Golden Globe winner Robin Williams honoured with the Cecil B DeMille Award for his contribution to entertainment.
