Jamie McCombe scored a header for Bristol City in the dying minutes of the game to scupper Crystal Palace's hopes for a win in a 1-1 draw.

McCombe headed a cross by Lee Johnson five minutes into injury time denying Palace what was looking like their first win in five games.

A win would have taken City to top of the Championship but a goal by Lee Hills in the second half resulted in one point for each team.

Hills scored his first goal for the senior team in a controversial strike which the home team felt should have been out ruled due to handball by Ben Watson in the lead up.

The start of the game was delayed by 15 minutes following a power failure causing the floodlights to go out.

When the game commenced there followed little opportunity in the first half, with the closest Palace came to hitting the back of the net being when Clint Hill headed the ball wide following a corner from team-mate Shefki Kuqi.

An opportunity came for City in the form of Nick Carle's left footer which was tipped round the post by Julian Speroni.

Palace were consistently shown to be the attacking side when the team pressed for a goal following City failing to clear a long throw-in.

The opportunity fell to Watson who set up Hills to drive the ball to the back of the net.

Both teams made substitutions in the 80th minute with Tamas Vasko coming on in place of Liam Fontaine for City and Shaun Derry replacing Jose Fonte on the Palace side.

A penalty taken by City's Bradley Orr was saved, driving them on to the stoppage time goal.
