Bolton Wanderers recorded one of their greatest ever results as they held the mighty Bayern Munich to a 2-2 draw in the Uefa Cup tonight.
The English team were under pressure for large parts of the game but a late Kevin Davies goal earned them a point from the Group F match.
Defender Ricardo Gardner stunned the German giants after just eight minutes as Bayern failed to clear a long throw by Kevin Nolan and Gardner's deflected shot beat Oliver Khan.
But spurned on by a vocal home crowd in the Allianz Arena, Bayern flooded the Bolton half with waves of attacks. And on the half hour mark Lukas Padolski equalised with a low curling drive.
Led by the inspirational Franck Ribery, the home side continued to dominate and should have taken the lead before half-time but midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger could only find the side netting when well placed in front of goal.
But they did take the lead four minutes into the second half when Ribery sliced the Bolton defence open and setup Podolski to grab his second goal.
As Bayern continued to bomb forward, experienced manager Ottmar Hitzfeld decided to take off his best players Ribery and Schweinsteiger. Hitzfeld was left to rue his decision as Bolton came back to steal a point.
Striker Davies got onto the end off a neat pass by Nolan and hammered the ball past Khan as Bolton held on for eight more minutes to achieve a memorable result.
