Legendary Australian star Shane Warne has decided to retire from first-class cricket and will not represent Hampshire this summer.
The 38-year-old was only scheduled to play a limited number of games for Hampshire due to other commitments, including a poker tournament and his participation in the Indian Premier League.
But Warne has now decided to bring the curtain down on an illustrious career which saw him claim 708 Test wickets, 293 one-day wickets, and represent Hampshire since 2000.
"Unfortunately I am retiring from all first-class cricket but will participate in the IPL with the Jaipur franchise as captain and coach," said Warne.
"This was not an easy decision to make but due to some exciting business opportunities and wanting to spend more time with my children, I had to make this call.
"My eight years involved with Hampshire have been a wonderful experience. Good luck to all involved at the Rose Bowl I wish you all the best," added Warne.
The leg-spinner took 276 for Hampshire and led the side to the 2005 C&G Trophy, although he missed the final due to the Ashes series.
Warne gave his support to England all-rounder Dimitri Mascarenhas, who has been named the new captain of Hampshire.
