Blackburn Rovers manager Sam Allardyce is to miss the next three Premier League matches to have surgery on a coronary artery, it has been announced.
The 55-year-old will undergo an angioplasty, a procedure which widens the artery using an artifical tube known as a stent.
Allardyce will miss Blackburn's clash tomorrow against his former club Bolton Wanderers, as well as the midweek trip to Fulham and the visit of Stoke City to Ewood Park next weekend.
He had complained of "brief episodes of chest discomfort", said a statement on the Lancashire club's official website.
"Sam is very disappointed, particularly at missing the Bolton fixture, but his wellbeing is of prime consideration," said Blackburn chairman John Williams.
"We all appreciate that Premier League football is a stressful business and prevention is always better than cure."
Assistant manager Neil McDonald will take charge of the team until Allardyce's expected return for the Carling Cup quarter-final tie against Chelsea on Wednesday week.
