Biarritz became the only French team in the Heineken Cup semi finals with an 11-6 win against Sale Sharks.
It was a dour clash between the leaders of the French and English leagues, with a first half try by Fijian winger Sereli Bobo the difference between the sides.
Sale could not breach the home defence and had just two Charlie Hodgson penalties to show for their afternoon's work.
The margin could have been greater if international scrum-half Dmitri Yachvili had not missed kicks at goal and been sin-binned late in the game.
Biarritz will face Bath in the semis, with Munster and Leinster making up an all-Irish semi final.
Bath and Leinster both got there through shock away wins, at Leicester and reigning champions Toulouse respectively.
Earlier, London Irish booked a European Challenge Cup semi-final with Newcastle after a 48-5 win over Bayonne.
Irish ran in seven tries and showed why they are one of the form teams in the Guinness Premiership.
A big forward push led to Robbie Russell scoring the first try, but though the Exiles dominated they could not find more points in the first half.
But they were rampant in the second. Russell, Topsy Ojo, Phil Murphy, Bob Casey, Pedro Tiesi and Riki Flutey all got on the scoresheet in the rout.
