West Ham striker Benni McCarthy has missed out on South Africa's final 23-man squad for this summer's World Cup.
South Africa coach Carlos Alberto Parreira announced earlier on Tuesday morning the 23 players the hosts will use during the World Cup, which starts on June 11th.
The 32-year-old, his country's record goalscorer, has suffered a series of injuries since joining West Ham United from Blackburn Rovers in January.
McCarthy's omission will come as a surprise to some, although the Premier League star played no part in South Africa's recent friendly against Guatemala.
On Monday South Africa ran out 5-0 winners in their penultimate warm-up game ahead of the World Cup.
McCarthy though remained on the substitutes' bench throughout the 90 minutes and played no part in the game.
Premier League-based trio Aaron Mokoena (Portsmouth), Kagisho Dikgacoi (Fulham) and Steven Pienaar (Everton) were all included in the squad.
