England manager Fabio Capello has confirmed that David Beckham will win his 100th cap in the friendly against France on Wednesday.

Beckham was dropped for Capello's first game against Switzerland but will be given the opportunity to make the landmark appearance against the former world champions at the Stade de France.

"I couldn't make him come all the way from the USA and not play him. If he carries on training and working hard as he is, he can easily last," Capello said.

He added that every player would love to win 100 caps for their country and not many do it, so for this achievement he must "congratulate David".

The former Manchester United midfielder will become the fifth player to reach a century of caps for England, joining Peter Shilton, Bobby Charlton, Bobby Moore and Billy Wright on the landmark figure.

Capello did not confirm if Beckham would start the game or not but did name Rio Ferdinand as captain for the match, ending speculation that Beckham would be given the honour for his 100th game.

Beckham was dropped for the Switzerland friendly due to a lack of match fitness, although the LA Galaxy midfielder has not played in many significant games since then.
