Beastie Boys rapper Adam Yauch has said he feels he is winning his battles with illness ahead of the group's new album.
Yauch was diagnosed with a cancerous parotid gland last year and underwent surgery to remove the tumour in July 2009, delaying the release of the hip-hop veteran's latest LP.
But speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the rhymesmith remarked: "I feel better.
"It was touch and go there for a while, but I am finally getting my energy back," he added.
Yauch was interviewed at the Independent Spirit film awards in Los Angeles, where he was supporting nominated films The Messenger and Treeless Mountain, both of which were distributed by his Oscilloscope Laboratories company.
The rapper said the release of the Beastie Boys' eighth album Hot Sauce Committee Part 1 depends on his health but added the trio are planning to edit the album in the near future.
"I was just talking to [bandmates] Adam [Horovitz] and Mike [D] today on the phone and we were talking about working on it a bit", he said.
"We finished the record over a year ago, so we want to take a look at it and re-evaluate and make sure it is what we want to put out there and that we are still happy with it."
