AC Milan face a tricky trip to Bavaria after conceding two precious away goals in a 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich in the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final.
Former Manchester City defender Daniel van Buyten equalised twice for the German champions, his second coming well into injury-time, to give them a good chance of disposing of the Rossoneri at the Allianz Arena in a week's time.
The hosts had created two fine openings with Clarence Seedorf and Massimo Ambrosini both coming close before they took the lead five minutes before the break.
Italian playmaker Andrea Pirlo ghosted in unseen at the back post and angled a hanging header back across Michael Rensing and into the far corner to the delight of the home fans.
Ottmar Hitzfeld, back at the helm after the sacking of Felix Magath at the beginning of this year, watched his team begin the second half passing the ball across the front of the Serie A side without finding a killer ball through the massed ranks of defenders.
But van Buyten popped up on 78 minutes to slam home a cushioned header from Claudio Pizarro and restore parity.
A terrible penalty decision allowed Brazilian Kaka to slot home from 12 yards just six minutes later, but the injustice was righted when van Buyten drove the ball past Dida from a slender angle late on.
