Inter Milan secured a historic treble as they were crowned European Champions in Madrid after beating Bayern Munich 2-0 at the Bernabeu.
Diego Milito starred for Jose Mourinho's side scoring a goal in each half to secure Inter's first European title for 45 years.
Bayern were also chasing a treble having won the German double and will feel hard done by having enjoyed good spells of possession.
Inter's pace on the break and the quality of Milito was too much for Bayern though and secured a milestone for Mourinho who becomes only the third manager to win the Champions League with two different clubs.
Both teams started brightly with Wesley Sneijder almost playing Milito through on goal before Arjen Robben showed his raw pace by flying past Christian Chivu on the right and sending in a low cross which Ivica Olic could only direct wide.
Bayern looked more comfortable with the ball and enjoyed good periods of possession, however it was their goalkeeper Hans Jorg Butt who was forced to make smart saves from two long range free-kicks from Sneijder.
And the Italians took the lead after the half hour when Milito headed a long ball down to Sneijder before collecting the return pass and clipping the ball over Bayern's helpless goalkeeper.
Another counter attack almost brought a second for Inter before half-time with Milito squaring the ball for Sneijder, however the Dutchman could only shoot straight at Butt.
Inter's defence was caught sleeping from the restart and Thomas Mueller should have equalised but shot straight at Julio Cesar.
Bayern continued to push for an equaliser with Robben curling a left-foot shot towards the top corner which Cesar managed to claw away before Walter Samuel threw himself in front of a shot from Olic.
Inter then broke out of defence again with devastating effect as Milito turned Daniel van Buyten inside out before calmly slotting the ball into the corner of the net.
Bayern tried in vain to get back into the game but Inter dug in to defend for the closing stages and finished comfortably to secure the Champions League crown and become the first Italian treble winners.
