One of European football's heavyweight clubs are staring down the barrel of elimination from the Champions League after Bayern Munich slumped to a 2-0 home defeat at the hands of Bordeaux.
The French champions scored late in either half, through Yoann Gourcuff and Marouane Chamakh, to seal their first ever spot in the competition's knockout phase.
It leaves Munich four points adrift of second-placed Juventus, who won 1-0 at Maccabi Haifa, with two games to play in Group A.
In the evening's headline event Real Madrid eased the pressure on boss Manuel Pellegrini with a hard-fought 1-1 draw at AC Milan.
Karim Benzema put the superstars from Spain ahead with his fourth goal in 11 appearances, before former Barcelona man Ronaldinho levelled from the spot six minutes later.
Yet the performance of the day goes to Olympique Marseille. The French outfit crushed FC Zurich 6-1 in France to move within a point of Milan and Madrid in the very delicately poised Group C.
Along with Chelsea, Porto closed the book on Group D with a slender 1-0 win at Apoel Nicosia. It is the sixth successive season the 2004 winners have qualified for the knockout stage.
