Rugby Football Union chief executive Francs Baron has insisted that he will not follow the lead of head coach Andy Robinson and stand aside after England's dismal run.
Baron is determined to stay on in his role to oversee the appointment of a new head coach as England look to mount a defence of the World Cup in France in September.
"I'm not going anywhere. I'm going to make sure that we get back on track," he asserted, despite a barrage of criticism aimed at the way the game is run in this country.
"We know what we've got to do and we are going to get England back to being number one in the world again."
Baron also insisted that Robinson had left his Twickenham role of his own accord, in spite of the former Bath flanker's departing words suggesting otherwise.
"At the end of the day the England head coach, as Andy will say, has to hold his hands up if the results don't go his way," the RFU supremo said.
"The plaudits you get when England do well, they rightly fall on the coach. Equally, when they don't go well, he has to accept responsibility."
