Justin Rose has been forced to pull out of the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth due to a back injury.
Rose pulled out of a pro-am event on Wednesday in the hope his back would heal in time but has had to admit he can not compete at Wentworth.
The Englishman has suffered with back problems throughout his career and the 28-year-old said the injury had flared up again since his arrival back in the UK.
He said: "Being back in the UK always ends up being very hectic for me as commitments always get crammed into the one week that I am home.
"Maybe all this rushing around has resulted in my back flaring up again and I am really disappointed to report that I have just had to withdraw."
Rose has struggled for form this season, registering just one top ten finish when he was runner-up to Rory McIlroy in the Dubai Desert Classic.
He is now ranked 38th in the world, having been as high as sixth in 2007, and Rose said he had been looking forward to Wentworth as an opportunity to reverse his fortunes.
Rose finished as runner-up in the PGA Championship two years ago following a play-off and said he felt he could be competitive this time as well before his injury occurred.
He said: "This has been a tournament that I have always loved competing in and is the main reason we travelled back, so having to withdraw is very frustrating for me."
Rose's place at Wentworth has now been given to Scotland's Richie Ramsay who won the US Amateur title in 2006 and is now a rookie on the European Tour.
