Thousands of people have attended the funeral of 11-year-old Rhys Jones, who was shot dead by a bicycle gunman in Liverpool on August 22nd.
Many carried out the wishes of Rhys' parents Melanie and Stephen, who had asked people to wear bright-coloured clothes and football shirts in memory of the victim of gun crime.
Everton's Z Cars anthem was played at the ceremony, held at Liverpool's Anglican cathedral, for the keen football fan. Players from the club are also expected to pay their respects to Rhys' family and defender Alan Stubbs gave a reading.
The hymn All Things Bright and Beautiful was sung by the mourners, who wore both the blue of Everton and the red of city rivals Liverpool.
"The team spirit, the free transfers, the end of cheating
these are all great pictures of the perfect life waiting for us in heaven," the Bishop of Liverpool, the Right Reverend James Jones, said during the service.
A private interment was to follow the service, at which only relatives and close friends were due to be present.
Rhys died on August 22nd when a gunman on a bicycle shot him outside a pub in Croxteth.
On Tuesday, Merseyside police granted bail to a 16-year-old, the 17th person arrested in connection with Rhys' murder, leaving no one in custody.
