Barca deny Ronaldinho Chelsea rumours

Barcelona will not let their prized asset leave
Barcelona's sporting director Txiki Berguiristain has moved quickly to dismiss rumours claiming Chelsea are ready to make a bid for playmaker Ronaldinho.

Reports in the Daily Mail suggested that Blues owner Roman Abramovich had held talks with the Brazilian's brother and advisor Roberto de Assis Moreira in London over the weekend.

The paper claims Abramovich is willing to make the midfielder the highest paid player in Europe if he joins the FA Cup holders.

However Berguiristain has categorically denied that Ronaldinho is for sale but says he understands other clubs wanting to sign the player.

Berguiristain told Catalunya Radio: "We do not want to sell him. Ronaldinho is our player and I am totally convinced that he will remain at the club.

"In this aspect the decision of Barcelona is clear.

"It is normal that any of the big clubs in the world desires Ronaldinho, but he has signed a deal with us," he added.

Ronaldinho is believed to have an £85 million buy-out clause in his contract and while the sum is enough to intimidate most clubs Abramovich has the spending power to meet the asking price if he desires.

Manager Jose Mourinho claims he is happy with the squad he currently at his disposal after bringing in Barca right-back Juliano Belletti last week.

Barca were held to a 0-0 draw by Getafe in their La Liga season opener yesterday despite having the luxury of starting new signing Thierry Henry on the substitutes bench.End of story
