Former Charlton boss Alan Curbishley has revealed that West Ham United have already approached him in order to discuss the possibility of him taking over the reigns at Upton Park.
Curbishley had been manager at The Valley for 15 years before resigning at the end of last season to take a break from football.
However, the 49-year-old has admitted that now could be the time to make a return to the spotlight and a comeback in east London, where he played for the Hammers in the 1970s, seems like the perfect setting.
"I'd love to know what they want to say - of course I'm interested," Curbishley told The Daily Express.
"I suspect we will get together over the next day or so when the dust has settled."
This instance is the second time Curbishley has been linked with a vacancy at Upton Park, after his name was also mentioned when Harry Redknapp left the club five years ago, and Curbishley claims, as he did then, that it was "a massive honour" to be linked with the post at his home-town club.
"I'm flattered by the response from fans who believe I should be the next boss but two and two do not always make four," he said, hinting that the process was still in its early stages.
However, Curbishley also described his passion for the local area, saying: "West Ham are my club.
"Once you are brought up in a background like West Ham, the affection you have for the club never goes away."
Other candidates being linked with the post include former England boss Sven-Goran Eriksson and current Wigan manager Paul Jewell, although Curbishley appears to be the overwhelming favourite, especially considering his recent comments.
