Wigan goalkeeper Chris Kirkland has been released from hospital after doctors were satisfied that he has sufficiently recovered from the concussion he received during the Latics' 1-1 draw with Middlesbrough yesterday.
Kirkland suffered the injury when team-mate David Wright collided with him midway through the first-half. Having received treatment on the pitch it was not until half-time that the full effects of the blow became clear.
The keeper suffered a delayed reaction and needed oxygen and a neck brace before being rushed to hospital as fears mounted that there was a serious risk to his health.
Wigan boss Paul Jewell said: "The main thing is Kirky [Kirkland] is alright. In the ambulance he did apparently say to tell the gaffer he would be okay for Wednesday against Arsenal."
"Chris went into shock, he was surrounded by six or seven paramedics and they were concerned, very concerned.
"I saw him come in and the next thing, he was on a bed. It was probably one of my hardest ever half-time team talks, to keep the players' minds focused on the job at hand. It's not easy when you see a team-mate suffering."
After being kept under observation last night and his doctors' first fears subsided, Kirkland has been told he can resume full training.
Kirkland's promising career has been blighted by injuries and he will hope that this latest concern does not keep him away from the action for too long.
