Reading have revealed top-scorer Kevin Doyle is out for a month with a hamstring injury.
The striker limped off after 38 minutes of the Royals' 1-1 draw with Everton at Goodison Park yesterday.
Doyle, 23, out-muscled defender Joleon Lescott on the right wing but pulled up sharply and was replaced by Shane Long.
The Irish forward had a scan which revealed he would be out for up to four weeks.
Reading boss Steve Coppell said the scan result was better than he had expected.
"We've had him scanned and it is better than we thought," Coppell told the club's official website.
Doyle will miss the Royals' home matches with Sheffield United, Aston Villa, and Wigan Athletic.
He has bagged ten league goals this season and lies third in the goal-scoring charts behind Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo and Chelsea striker Didier Drogba.
Meanwhile, Coppell revealed that captain Graeme Murty was close to returning to first-team action.
The defender has missed the last three games with a groin injury.
Coppell said: "He is looking a lot better, and we're hoping he'll be back training soon," said club physio Jon Fearn.
"He wasn't quite 100 per cent for Everton but the extra few days will take him up a level."
