Rangers twice came from behind before beating Dundee United on penalties to win the CIS Insurance Cup at Hampden Park.
In a thrilling encounter, Hunt a deserved lead in the 34th minute from a rebound after his first shot was parried by Alan McGregor.
Kris Boyd grabbed the first of his two goals in the 85th minute when Mark Kerr made a mess of a backpass, allowing the striker to lash the ball in.
Dundee United regained the lead in extra time when he hammered the ball past McGregor from the right-hand side of the box in the 96th minute.
But Walter Smith's side hit back again when Boyd headed in at the back post with seven minutes remaining.
In a nail-biting shootout, David Robertson, Craig Conway and Lee Wilkie missed penalties in the shoot-out for United.
Jean-Claude Darcheville and Lee McCulloch had their spot-kicks saved for Rangers, but Boyd held his serve to slot home the winning penalty.
Boyd, who has bagged 22 goals this season, said it was a final he would never forget.
"I despatched it, we won the cup, that's the most important thing for the team," Boyd told BBC Scotland.
Your first medal in professional football is obviously the best moment, so I'll enjoy it."
Meanwhile Terrors boss Craig Levein, whose side have not won a trophy since 1994, said penalties was a cruel way to lose the final.
I thought we were magnificent. All credit to the players, I thought they were fantastic," Levein said.
Rangers assistant manager Ally McCoist, who won the League Cup nine times as a player, told BBC1 Scotland: "What a game of football it was."
