Liverpool chief executive Rick Parry has given evidence to the arbitration panel investigating Sheffield United's complaint over their relegation from the Premiership.
The Blades called on Parry to support their claims that irregularities in the transfer of Argentine duo Carlos Tevez and Javier Mascherano to fellow strugglers West Ham United should be punished with a points penalty.
The Reds supremo is believed to have been the first to call the pair's switch to the Premiership into question when his club secured a loan deal for Mascherano in January.
"Rick is an experienced football guy. He's a good witness," United chairman Kevin McCabe said after the day's hearing.
"The arbitration is going well and I think the panel recognise all the points of the case. It's about righting the wrongs from the first decision."
Although the Hammers were found guilty of not revealing the full extent of the agreement by which their high-profile imports arrived from Brazilian side Corinthians, they escaped with a £5.5 million fine rather than being docked points.
Tevez's influential performances, including a final-day winner against champions Manchester United, were allowed to continue and the Upton Park side survived while Sheffield United dropped into the Championship on goal difference.
A three-man committee, chaired by former High Court judge Sir Philip Otton, is expected to deliver its verdict on the Blades' reinstatement to the top-flight sometime tomorrow.
