Charlton manager Les Reed has been sensationally replaced by former West Ham coach Alan Pardew just eight games into his tenure.
Reed, who has left the club by mutual consent, gained only four points during his time as head coach and last week suffered the ignominy of a 1-0 home defeat in the League Cup to League Two minnows Wycombe Wanderers.
Pardew, sacked earlier this month by West Ham after a string of poor results at the east London club, arrives at the Valley with Charlton seven points adrift of safety one place above the foot of the Premiership table.
The appointment of Pardew, who has signed a three-and-a-half year deal, represents the continuation of a tumultuous season for the Addicks, which had been the shining example of stability prior to Alan Curbishley's departure at the end of last season.
Newly-appointed West Ham boss Curbishley transformed the club into Premiership regulars over a 15-year period, but Charlton have now had three managers this season already; with ex-Crystal Palace coach Iain Dowie lasting only until November after a poor start to the season.
Pardew's first game in charge will be at home against Fulham on December 27th, with the manager guaranteed to invest in new blood and offload the squad's deadwood when the January transfer window opens.
