Struggling West Ham have signed midfielder Nigel Quashie from West Brom in their bid to beat the drop.
The Scotland international will cost an initial fee of £1.5 million and the Hammers will pay a further £250,000 if they avoid relegation or regain promotion while Quashie is at the club.
He has been relegated with an amazing four clubs in his career after spells at QPR, Nottingham Forest, Southampton and most recently West Brom in 2006.
Quashie, 28, is Alan Curbishley's second signing in the transfer window following the arrival of midfielder Luis Boa Morte from Fulham.
Curbishley said Quashie's experience will bring competition for places in midfield.
He added: "I saw that Mark Noble was also capable of providing that for us on Saturday [against Brighton], and it now means we have beefed up that area of the team.
"Nigel comes in here - like Luis Boa Morte - knowing full well the position we are in, and he is confident and convinced that we will be able to get out of the bottom three.
"I have not promised him anything in terms of first team football - he will have to earn it like the rest of the players - but he brings vast experience to the club and has shown me that he is eager and hungry to do everything he can to help us."
Quashie, who has picked up five yellow cards this season, has been an ever-present in the Baggies midfield.
He is expected to make his debut in Saturday's crunch game with Fulham at Upton Park.
