Jonathan Woodgate hailed Tottenham's Carling Cup victory as "one of the best feelings ever" and hoped it was a sign of things to come.
The defender only joined Spurs four weeks ago and has already managed to win a trophy following his move from Middlesbrough.
It was Woodgate's header in the first period of extra-time that handed Spurs their first trophy in nine years and also maintained manager Juande Ramos' 100 per cent success rate in cup finals the Spaniard has now won five with Sevilla and one with Spurs.
Woodgate claimed Spurs deserved their 2-1 win over Chelsea as he felt they had dominated possession and created the best chances.
He said: "It's a great feeling to win our first trophy as a team - we've got a great team spirit and work ethic."
The 28-year-old admitted the Blues had been tough opposition but insisted the win showed Spurs are also a top side.
Woodgate added: "They [Chelsea] are a tough side, they are a champions league side they showed that today they are resilient but we came out on top."
The defender was voted man-of-the-match following his performance at the heart of Tottenham's defence and was as surprised as anyone to have scored the winning goal.
He said: "Scoring that goal gave me one of the best feelings ever. This team is unbelievable. I hope this is the start of something big."
The Teesside native also saluted Ramos for his influence since replacing Martin Jol midway though the season.
"He's a brilliant manager - he has won trophies in Spain and now he has won a trophy for Tottenham," added a delighted Woodgate.
The win means Spurs have also qualified for next season's Uefa Cup, a trophy they will be hoping to add to the Carling Cup later this season having reached the last-16 earlier in the week.
