Alex Ferguson expects Manchester United to go on a strong run and challenge for the title after they gained their first victory of the season against Tottenham Hotspur yesterday.
Ferguson believes the new players in his squad lacked some confidence and that the win will have boosted their morale.
The Red Devils are ten points behind leaders Chelsea but Ferguson thinks the 1-0 win will prove to be a turning point in their season.
He said: "I thought we lacked a bit of confidence in the early part of the match. I think the players were anxious, because the expectation is high here."
"I can look on today as the first time this season that we have had a little break. Hopefully it will give us the confidence to enjoy our football and we can now go on a long run."
Under-pressure Spurs boss Martin Jol was also keen to take some positives away from Old Trafford despite his teams defeat.
Spurs had a series of close chances but were denied by some last-ditch tackles by United. The north London side remain towards the foot of the table after the loss.
Jol said: "The only thing I can be critical about is that maybe we lacked a bit of cutting edge.
"We tried everything, we worked hard, I enjoyed watching Gareth Bale make his debut and there were a lot of positives."
Jol felt his team should have been awarded a penalty when the ball struck Wes Brown in the box but Ferguson assured reporters that it had struck the defender on the chest.
