Newcastle striker Obafemi Martins is confident Newcastle United can put their poor season behind them and qualify for European football next term.
Martins feels the Magpies have turned a corner following their three-game unbeaten run, which includes Sunday's 4-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur, and will perform much better next season.
Kevin Keegan's side appear to have got themselves away from danger at the bottom of the table but Martins insists there is still much to play for.
The Nigerian believes it is important to finish this season well to give themselves some momentum going into next year.
He said: "Everybody in Newcastle wants to get back into Europe, and if we get off to a good start next year, it is possible.
"Things have not gone well this season and, when it is over, we have to sit and think about that a lot and why it has happened.
"Now, though, we have to finish on a high. It has not been our best year, but we still have six games to finish in a respectable position."
Martins has been an integral part of Newcastle's return to form playing as part of a three-man strike force with Mark Viduka and Michael Owen.
Keegan will hope that his new-found formula for success continues when the Magpies face Reading at St James' Park on Saturday.
