Portsmouth striker Nwankwo Kanu has pleaded with Portsmouth to let him join Dutch giants Ajax.
The Nigerian striker, who has scored nine goals this season, wants to rejoin the club where he lifted the Champions League as a teenager in 1995.
He said that he was hoping Ajax would make him an offer in this month's transfer window.
"I want to go to Ajax. Portsmouth should be grateful for what I have been able to do for them and allow me to go," Kanu told the Vanguard newspaper.
"I am waiting for Ajax's offer. I have told Portsmouth I want to leave. My mind is made up. I have great memories of Amsterdam and I know great things can happen there if we return."
The news is a huge blow for manager Harry Redknapp who has managed to get the best out of the 30-year-old.
Redknapp signed Kanu on a free transfer last summer after a disastrous spell at relegated West Bromwich Albion.
Kanu's goals have helped Pompey challenge for a European place after narrowly escaping the drop last season.
The former Arsenal striker added that Tottenham's Edgar Davids may join him in Amsterdam.
"I have been talking to Edgar Davids and a couple of the other guys who shaped Ajax in the mid-1990s and we believe we can recreate the atmosphere if we return to play for the club," Kanu said.
Kanu was part of a star-studded side that won the Dutch league and European Cup 12 years ago which included former Newcastle striker Patrick Kluivert, ex-Chelsea flop Winston Bogarde, and Manchester United's Edwin Van Der Sar.
