Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy this evening gave his full backing to under pressure manager Martin Jol.
Jol's future had been in doubt after his team lost their opening two fixtures of the Premier League season, away to Sunderland and at home to Everton.
Media reports claimed that Levy had drawn up a three man shortlist - consisting of Italian World Cup-winning coach Marcelo Lippi, Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp and Sevilla manager Juande Ramos - to replace Jol. Ramos was even reportedly offered the job.
But Levy says that Jol's job is safe and denied anyone else had been offered his job. Levy also paid tribute to the improvement Tottenham have made in the Dutchman's three seasons in charge.
"Martin has my 100 per cent support and I'd like the fans to understand that they need to take the last few days in the context of what we think has been significant progress over the last six years," said Levy.
"We both want success and Martin has assured me that I've got his 100 per cent commitment and I've given it to him.
"No-one has been offered a job either now or in the preceding nearly three years that Martin has been manager."
Jol has guided Tottenham to fifth position in the last two Premier League seasons and Levy stressed the point that it was crucial to the club's development that they break into the top four and get into the Champions League.
"What Martin has said and what I have said is that we need to aim to be in the top four," added Levy.
"I very much hope that we will be there and he believes he has got the squad, but obviously there can be no guarantees."
