Sunderland manager Roy Keane has said his side's 3-1 defeat at West Ham United was "difficult to take" after they dominated the match.
The Black Cats slumped to their third defeat in a row at Upton Park thanks to a freak own goal by goalkeeper Craig Gordon and further strikes from Carlton Cole and Craig Bellamy.
Kenwyne Jones had equalised Cole's opener just after half-time and the visitors went on to dominate the second period.
But an unfortunate rebound off the post from Nolberto Solano's shot struck Gordon's foot and rolled into the net was a cruel blow and Bellamy's late strike sealed the points.
And despite admitting his disappointment, Keane refused to be too downhearted after seeing his battling side put in another good display away from home.
"It's very, very difficult to take. We feel we deserved something out of the game, we played well enough," he remarked afterwards.
"But having said that I think you make your own luck in football and we gave away a couple of sloppy goals. It's disappointing to leave here empty-handed certainly."
Keane also conceded that the hard-working display was "small consolation" and said it was time the team started turning performances into points.
"We need a few more points on the board," he continued.
"But the players have got that in them - that desire and determination to keep going.
"When we got to 1-1 I thought the next goal would be a major turning point and unfortunately it didn't fall our way."
