Nottingham Forest manager Colin Calderwood has admitted his side are "lower than anyone can imagine" after seeing his club's Wembley dreams disappear.
The former European champions suffered arguably the worst night in their history yesterday evening as Somerset minnows Yeovil overturned a 2-0 first-leg deficit to make the League One play-off finals.
Forest had looked odds-on to book their place at the new Wembley after beating Yeovil convincingly at Huish Park last week, but Russell Slade's side earned a memorable 5-2 win at the City ground.
That gave them an amazing 5-4 aggregate win and means they will now play Oldham or Blackpool for a place in the Championship in a week's time.
"We had a bad night at a crucial stage and we got beat by the better team," Calderwood said after the game.
"There are so many lessons to be learned."
The former Forest player insisted that he still viewed the position he is in as a "great job" but he will have much work to do to win back the support of the fans after last night's humiliation at home.
Yeovil went 1-0 up after 22 minutes with an Arron Davies free-kick, but Forest's superior position was restored two minutes after the break through Scott Dobie.
But an amazing last eight minutes saw Yeovil force extra-time through an Alan Wright own goal and a Marcus Stewart header in the dying moments.
Forest's David Prutton was also sent off for two bookable offences and Yeovil were in the ascendancy in extra-time.
Lee Morris put the Glovers 4-3 ahead on aggregate on 92 minutes, although Gary Holt equalised a minute later for Forest.
But Yeovil's numerical and psychological advantage came good on 109 minutes when Davies scored his second in the game to send the travelling Somerset supporters into raptures.
