Sheffield United club chairman Terry Robinson says that the club have already compiled a shortlist for their new manager and could be making an announcement early next week.
The Blades were forced to begin the search for a new manager after Neil Warnock announced his resignation earlier this week.
And despite there being no reason to rush a decision, given that the football season is drawing to a close, Bramall Lane supremo Robinson admits that he wants to have the situation resolved as soon as possible to help them build for next season.
"Those of us on the football side are doing the research and have submitted a shortlist to the board," he told the club's official website.
"Broadly speaking we are looking at three lists - one containing the names of men with all the ideal qualities, another of up-and-coming younger managers and then some from abroad to give us a wide choice of possibilities."
Robinson added that the board would be "working mainly from the first list" and admitted that they had already been in contact with several of their main targets.
"We will progress from there when we have enough information and confidence to take things to the next stage," he said.
"The timeframe for appointing is really to get everything sorted out as soon as possible. [Plc chairman] Kevin McCabe is currently in the USA so we are doing the groundwork so that he can decide, possibly as early as next week."
