Kevin Keegan believes Newcastle United can break into the top four of the Premier League and win a trophy.
The ex-England boss begins his second spell at the club as manager against Bolton Wanderers tomorrow at St James Park.
Keegan inherits a side languishing in 11th place in the Premier League table.
The 56-year-old, who has signed a three-and-a-half year deal at Tyneside, is confident the Magpies can win a trophy.
"I said to [owner] Mike Ashley 'What do you want to do?' and he said 'I want to win something'," Keegan said.
"That might sound like a tough challenge, but it is possible to win something here. It is possible to win a cup and break into the top four.
"Not overnight, but it is possible. I don't think in the last few years that the players have seen this club at its best.
"We've done it once, we can do it again."
Under Keegan, the Magpies famously led the Premier League table by 12 points in the 1995/96 season before being overtaken by Manchester United.
Keegan also insisted he is happy to work with Michael Owen despite the striker's comments in his biography Off The Record.
Owen said the period playing for England under Keegan was "the darkest of my career".
"I have heard about his book and he is entitled to his opinion and I'm looking forward to working with him," Keegan said.
