Kevin Keegan has ruled out an emotional return to Newcastle United as director of football.
Newspaper reports claimed Keegan was approached by Toon owner Mike Ashley over the summer with boss Sam Allardyce stepping in to block the deal.
The former England boss walked away from management in March 2005 after quitting Manchester City.
Keegan, who managed the Magpies between 1992 and 1997, said he would not take a job over Allardyce's head.
"It's absolutely impossible to give Sam a job at Newcastle and then go and fetch someone who's going to be some sort of threat, it doesn't work," Keegan told the BBC.
"Sam would be a fool to let it happen, the guy who goes in would be a fool to accept it and the chairman, who's not a fool, would be a fool to go and do it. It doesn't work."
Since leaving City, Keegan has been running interactive coaching sessions in Glasgow.
The Liverpool legend revealed he has turned his back on the professional game.
"My life's gone in a different direction," Keegan added.
"I haven't watched a game of football live since my last game at City and I can't even remember what game that was now.
"So I don't think that'll happen but I do get offers to go back into football. But I made a decision that I would do something different."
