Newcastle United boss Sam Allardyce has admitted he is in need of results to ease the pressure on him at St James' Park.
The former Bolton Wanderers manager took charge on Tyneside amid a wave of public support from the Toon Army faithful.
But a run of five games without a win, in which the team have collected just one Premier League point, has increased the burden of expectation on Allardyce to turn the team's fortunes around sooner rather than later.
Last week's 3-0 home defeat to Liverpool saw scenes of discontent among the fans, who booed their team off the pitch, and Allardyce admitted that he needs an improved showing and a better result against league leaders Arsenal tomorrow night.
"I have to make my own time," Allardyce told the club's official website.
"Only results will buy me the time to build and grow something which is sustainable."
He continued: "This football club has massive potential and I want to be the man who brings success.
"But, for that to happen, we must start winning games soon and then we can go from there."
Allardyce pointed to the blueprints for long-term success provided by the current driving forces in England, Sir Alex Ferguson's Manchester United and Arsene Wenger's Arsenal.
The Red Devils have been under one manager for over two decades, while the Gunners celebrated Wenger's 11th anniversary in north London earlier this season.
"Manchester United and Arsenal have both built great sides after giving their managers time to do so," Allardyce explained.
"Chelsea have bought success in recent years by spending more than £200 million but still are not at the same level as Manchester United and Arsenal at unearthing and nurturing young talent."
