Pop-punksters Koopa have made chart history by becoming the first unsigned band in history to have a UK top 40 single.

The Essex boys' three-piece's Blag, Steal and Borrow debuted at number 31 based on online sales alone, following changes to the way in which weekly sales charts were calculated.

Previously a song could only enter the chart if on sale in CD format as well.

But success for the band, made up of brothers Ollie and Stu Cooper and Joe Murphy, comes a week too late for the Coopers' father Martin, who suffered a fatal heart attack last week.

Clinging on at number one this week in the singles chart is X Factor winner Leona Lewis with A Moment Like This, narrowly beating off the challenge of Proper Education by Eric Prydz v Floyd.

Beirut-born Mika is in the top ten for the first time with Grace Kelly at three, with British rapper Just Jack one behind with Starz in Their Eyes.

In a slow week in the album chart meanwhile, Amy Winehouse's Back to Black, initially released in October, sneaks into the top spot.
